This unique Visitor Center is perched high upon the rocky cliffs of Flaming Gorge and offers visitors a commanding view of the vast Red Canyon, carved by the Green River many eons ago. It is open daily from mid-May through mid-September. One can gain a good sense of the area’s frontier history and watchable wildlife through exhibits in the Center.
Free Interpretive Programs are offered for kids and families throughout the summer season. Typically, the staff also sets up a spotting scope focused on nesting raptors or bighorn sheep along the surrounding rocky slopes. A fully accessible interpretive trail leads from the visitor center on a easy stroll to several viewpoints along Red Canyon Overlook. The longer Red Canyon Rim hiking & biking trail winds along the canyon rim passing several campgrounds, a lodge and other trails.
